February 2024 Meeting Notes

HSA Meeting: 02/14/2024 (WED)

Time: 7PM-8PM

____________________________

  • Sam reported a good turnout for the drives – many people dropped off the items.

  • Fundraiser for teachers' wish lists: Adam pointed out that it helps identify what items we need so people might reach out more as they are clear about what we are looking for, which may be more beneficial than broadening the message.

  • Megan said we could see if we would make it fun for people to participate more.

  • Act of Kindness on Valentine's Week at LEA:

  • HSA (Kathleen) took over the bulletin boards for Black History Month, and flyers and HSA event calendars were on the other board.

  • Teacher's Break Room: HSA should commit to the water, coffee, creamer, and sugar.

  • Volunteer needed – one person once a week is needed to attend the breakroom and take care of a few spots in the school that HSA can help.

  • Sam wanted to volunteer to bring the water to the break room, and Megan raised that we should develop a more sustainable plan for the break room and that things shouldn't be only on Sam, and she would eventually be burnt out.

Middle School School Dance:

  • HSA contributed $500 to the dance, the decoration, and the food.

  • The dance came out wonderful. Some of the decorations came from Ms. Arafin.

Future Projects:

  • Sam said that in the future, HSA should discuss with LEA if the school plans to support the teachers, who often have to pay from their pockets to fund their school projects for their students.

Bake Sales today (2/14/24).:

  • About 16 people signed up to provide different items (baked items, pretzels, pizza, etc.) for the Bake Sales.

  • Sam added that HSA should give out the flyers for the kids to take home ahead of the Bake Sales day so that they would remember to bring a few bucks for the baked items.

Budgets:

  • Megan reported that HSA has about $2,000.

Horticultural club:

  • Currently open from K – G8

  • Mx. Steph Juris

  • Mx. Juris reported to the board members that there were several items that she required to have the activities running:

  • The pallet for the composter – requested to have one more adult to help her work on this

  • Need soil and some people's power to help assemble some of the items

  • The fence is needed.

  • Cabinet – there is a tall cabinet at the back of the auditorium, and people power is required to help build some of the shelves

  • Basketball – final games at Penn Alexandra and MYA (MYA =  (March Games)

  • To wrap up the season, the certificate (the Letters without the Sweaters for the kids' participation) might be given to LEA participants, and HSA might fund $ for pizza for 25 kids and coaches. – Sunida volunteered to help design the certificates.
