School Updates from Mr. Rich

  1. Move-up ceremonies coming up (preK Friday, Kindergarten Monday, 5th grade Monday, 8th grade Tuesday @ Christ Community Church); last day of school is the 14th

  2. 8th grade visited the zoo last week, K-2 visited yesterday!

  3. Our school plan will be posted on the website before the last day of school

  4. Staff training will begin August 23rd

  5. Hoping to notify families of teacher assignments earlier this year than in the past

VP and Secretary informal election

  1. 0 nominations for secretary, 1 for Adam for VP and one fo Jenny for VP of communications - unanimous yes votes for both of those positions, secretary position will be open

  2. Planning to engage parents again in the fall re: possibly filling the secretary position

Book Fair report - provided more than 400 books to students (1/student at Lea); sales were on par with past years, ~$2507 (still processing). We won’t have a large Scholastic Dollars balance going into the next fair in the fall and will therefore need to fundraise if we aim to provide free books to students again (approximate cost is $4000)

  1. Swag sales were ~$316

  2. Lots of demand for tshirts – need more kids’ sizes and adult sizes

    1. Completely out of tie dye shirts; Rachael is planning on ordering kid and adult sizes – might need to wait until after teachers submit reimbursements – maybe in late June. Need to at least have before back to school night

Financial Report

  1. Total available: $3742.67 (most is earmarked for end of year celebrations)

    1. So far 2 teachers have submitted reimbursements! Need to send a reminder email tomorrow. Set a deadline of June 22.

  2. Scholastic Dollars balance: TBD - pending processing of recent fair sales

Summer projects

  1. Kindergarten play date - Saturday August 20th 9:30 am-11 am

    1. Will distribute info via email about a month ahead, maybe early-mid July

    2. HSA can help by advertising through our channels

    3. Might want to tack on some yard work to help build community

  2. August online fundraiser

    1. Ideas for theme of fundraiser: Perhaps going broad – equipment and supplies for classrooms – so that we can include everyone (including specials teachers)

      1. Special projects / supporting learning opportunities in the classroom – providing easy access to project supplies

      2. New STEM classroom - equipping it (maybe getting a wishlist from the new STEM specials teacher– this person would start in early summer)

      3. Recess equipment

    2. Dates: start in late July and then ramp up in August

      1. We can start talking specifics in mid-late July.

Discussion around AC units - There are still some classrooms who can take AC units but don’t yet have them. The requests may be stuck in bureaucracy. Discussed ways we may be able to advocate to get the district to air condition the whole building. Write some emails!
