HSA Financial update: Balance of $2900

Project Updates:

  • Recess supply purchases (Steph): Spent $1378.02 on recess supplies (from beginning of year fundraiser. (spent $205 more than raised but had excess from end of last year that we put toward it!)

  • Playground benches (Adam): Working with the person at UCD who is a landscape architect and designed the seating at 30th Street Station’s “the Porch”. He also helped get outdoor seating for his own son’s public school in Philly, so has experience working with the District on this issue. We’re engaging in long-term conversation about high-quality seating (e.g. the three-sided benches around tree pits). For now, he encouraged us to move forward with more affordable moveable seating. He doesn’t think we should worry about things getting moved, stolen, etc. Adam is going to work on finding a visually appealing but affordable set of outdoor seats and will continue talking with UCD about the longer-term seating projects (could be a couple years before that materializes).

Another plug for MLK Day of Service!

New Projects - Fundraising brainstorm: Seems like doing a series of smaller scale fundraisers is going to be more effective. People seem unable to donate larger amounts of money right now. Some ideas:

  • Leveraging MLK Day event – HSA table with bake sale, Lea swag, and specific fundraising ask

  • Bake sales, concession stand-type things at school events: report card conferences, Lion King performance, basketball games

  • Restaurant-based fundraisers on a more regular basis

  • Chipotle again?

  • Other restaurants that are closer to Lea?

  • Staff kickball or basketball tournament

Other ideas

  • Changing table is still needed for AS class. Not certain of how specialized this needs to be or what the location/space requirements are. Mandy is looking further into this.
